Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway Project:
R&D Maintenance Services, Inc. provides operations and maintenance services on U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects throughout the southeast since 1980. We are the Operations and Maintenance Contractor for the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway Project providing waterway, machinery and facility maintenance and repair on several hundred miles of waterway and 10 locks/dams/spillways on the system. Position is based in Columbus, MS. R&D is an EEO Employer.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs or assists with a variety of trade and craft duties involving maintenance, repair and improvement of buildings, roads, drainage structures, project infrastructure, utility systems, equipment, etc. Trade practices include carpentry, painting, mechanical repair, electrical, plumbing, welding, excavation, forestry, etc. Works independently or under general supervision of a craftsperson to perform the work assigned. General maintenance positions with growth opportunity based on performance, skills, and knowledge.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS:
  • Performs or assists with routine maintenance, repair, or construction tasks on machinery, buildings, structures, utility systems, roads, etc.
  • Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Performs or assists with lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation.
  • Performs minor maintenance & cleaning activities for tools and equipment.
  • Safely operate assigned maintenance vehicle when required.
  • Maintains a clean work area.
  • Works indoor and outdoor assignments.
  • Participates in the R&D Safety and Quality Control Programs and upholds safety and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to use and operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in facilities and equipment maintenance, repair, and light construction.
  • Strong knowledge of general building and site maintenance repair techniques, standards, and processes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and thinking skills.
  • Planning and organizing skills to effectively prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; Work effectively alone or with other team members.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • You must be able to communicate efficiently and clearly with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to demonstrate overall safe work behavior; including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adhering to safety guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable work experience in building, facility, machinery maintenance, or construction trades. Prefer 7-10 years.
  • Operation of small construction equipment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Required to successfully complete background check, MVR, and drug/alcohol screenings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Frequent walking and standing;
  • Heavy Work; Exerting up to 100 pounds for force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Good manual dexterity and frequent use of power and hand tools.
  • Frequently lifts/carries up to 20 pounds with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Dexterity and frequent use of power and hand tools.
  • Frequent balancing, kneeling, reaching (full range), bending, handling, feeling, climbing, smelling, twisting, crawling and reaching; working in cramped and confined spaces.
  • Vision, speech, smell and hearing sufficient to perform essential tasks.
  • Required to successfully complete background check, MVR, and drug/alcohol screenings.
  • Some field travel and occasional overtime. Occasional overnight stays.
